Photo by Jim K. The parkway, which was to connect northern New Jersey with resort areas on the Atlantic coast, was proposed in response to growing congestion on major north-south routes such as US 1, US 9 and NJ Early designs for the parkway from the New Jersey State Highway Department were divided into three units: The NJ 4 Parkway was to have been financed out of annual appropriations for highway building.
With only 18 miles of parkway completed by , financing the remainder of the parkway had become difficult, but officials soon came up with another plan modeled on the successful New Jersey Turnpike.

It drives the New York regional economy by opening up countless job opportunities for millions — jobs that are miles from home are easy to get to with our subways, buses, and commuter trains. And after work, the network enables them to get to leisure activities: MTA subways, buses, and railroads provide 2. MTA bridges and tunnels carry more than million vehicles a year — more than any bridge and tunnel authority in the nation. While nearly 85 percent of the nation's workers need automobiles to get to their jobs, four of every five rush-hour commuters to New York City's central business districts avoid traffic congestion by taking transit service — most of it operated by the MTA.
MTA customers travel on America's largest bus fleet and on more subway and rail cars than all the rest of the country's subways and commuter railroads combined. This mobility helps ensure New York's place as a world center of finance, commerce, culture, and entertainment, and New York ranks near the top among the nation's best cities for business, Fortune magazine has written, because it has "what every city desires. A workable mass transit system.
The people living in our service area lead carbon-efficient lives, making New York the most carbon-efficient state in the nation. Our employees at all of our agencies work diligently to maintain high service and safety standards. The MTA is continuing its rebuilding and improvement efforts through the Capital Program and has committed significant resources to the first substantial expansion of the network in 60 years, including Long Island Rail Road access to Grand Central, the uptown segment of a full-length Second Avenue subway, and the extension of the number 7 line west from Times Square to the Javits Center.

The park-and-ride lot along Orange and Rockland Road makes the trail an excellent active transportation corridor for commuters taking public transit.
One criticism of today's expressways is the tedium and hypertension they create within the driver.
And now, the cuckolded hubby is facing up to 15 years in prison for his snooping. He broke down crying when he shared them with The Post. The next video, 35 seconds long, shows Nancy and Lopez covering up as Sean berates his wife. OK, I get it. Earlier that day, Nancy asked her husband to watch their son, now 5, so she could go to dinner with friends in Elizabeth, NJ, according to Sean.
The software showed the device traveling toward Rockland, Sean said, stirring fears he had been harboring about Nancy, who at the time worked with Lopez in the billing department at an orthopedics office in Clifton. Wyoming Alabama Alabama Power Company: Today the Alabama Power Company is a electricity provider to over one million customers but back during the early 20th century it also owned a number of streetcar railroad operations including in the cities of Anniston, Montgomery and Tuscaloosa. Most of its operations were out of business and shutdown by the s. It operated until at which point it had grown to a nearly 50 mile system.
The interurban was shutdown that year when its president died, J. Howard Wilson and it was acquired by the National City Lines, which converted all operations to bus-only operations. The Capital City Electrical Railway, also known as the Lightning Route, began operations on April 15, serving Montgomery and was one of the first to recognize that dense commercial and residential areas within a city should be separated.
It operated for exactly 50 years before the service was replaced by buses. Today, Montgomery is attempting to rebuild a small interurban operation. Alaska Tanana Valley Railroad: This interurban would eventually became part of the Alaska Railroad. It reached its peak length of 11 miles in and again changed its name to the Pine Bluff Company.

The streamlined design of these bridges is closer to the simpler, utilitarian designs that would become common in postwar expressways.
This newcomer in the brick colony is conceded to be one of the finest brickmaking establishments on the picturesque Hudson, famed as the head-center of the industry in this quarter of the globe. All that goes to make a location desirable is found at Newton Hook in great liberality--pure sand in illimitable quantity, hills of clay that literally can never be exhausted and a small mountain of the best shale that the state of New York can boast. In addition to these admirable resources are the unequalled means of transportation afforded by the New York Central railroad on the one hand and the waterway of the world on the other.
Of equal importance with location are the up-to-date labor-saving devices that have been incorporated in the new plant. Newton Hook was formerly Coxsackie Station, but the name was changed recently, partly because it was too frequently confused with the town of Coxsackie on the west shore of the river, and partly because the topography makes it appropriate, for a hook-shaped peninsula juts into the river at that point.
The Cary property is several hundred feet south of the railroad station at one of the most commanding points of the eastern shore. Back of the buildings that comprise the plant rise a series of hills, each a mine of wealth from the viewpoint of the brickmaker, and the company owns acres of these convolutions extending back from the river. The present buildings comprise two driers, each 53 x ft. From the midst of the group the stack rises to a height of 90 ft.
